Pervomaisk Ukraine – Chanikas Hamikvah

The new kosher mikvah in Pervomaisk, Ukraine has reached its chanikas hamikvah, the dedication of the mikvah. The community achieved this milestone despite the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Pervomaisk, in the Mykolaiv Oblast, is home to 2,000 Yidden. Rabbi Levi Perlstein has led the community for 14 years, building a daily minyan, a kollel for older men, a program for younger men, and a learning group for women. Until now, the nearest mikvah was in Nicholav, a two-and-a-half hour trip each way. Mikvah Tahara Association has taken on the project, which is estimated to cost $175,000. The mikvah is expected to inspire 5 to 20 tevilos each month.
